After leaving Fort Stevens State Park, heading up to Seattle, Washington, we stopped to get gas in the seaport town of Astoria.  The gas attendant told us of his favorite place to eat in town called the Urban Cafe.  (Here's a little known fact: it's against the law to fill your own gas at a gas station in Oregon.  All gas stations are full service.  No one could tell us why this is so, but they said it's been this way for a long time.  $5,000 fine for pumping your own gas!)

Astoria, OR  (8/2)

We decided to take the gas station attendant's recommendation for lunch.  Turns out to be a great place for vegetarians, not to mention for truffle-lovers too!

After lunch, we crossed over the Astoria-Megler bridge, crossing from Oregon to Washington state.

Windsurfing the day away along the Columbia River

A bit out of order, I wanted to throw this picture in here.  This RV was at the Fort Stevens State Park.  The reason why it warrants a spot on this page is its license plate, which you can find more clearly on our license plates page.  It reads, "RUFINIT"!  (We're happy to trade our tent with them if the RV is too rough for them!)

Enjoying a tasty lunch at Kidd Valley with Elena's cousins Dylan, Kelsey, Loni (mom), and Marci (grandmom, next picture).

Kenmore, WA (8/3)

Gettin' the bike ready for ridin'!

Nothing like a good rope swing from a tree in the yard

Starting our bike ride, Marci leads the way.  Little did we know that we'd be riding almost 20 miles along the Sammamish Trail. (8/3)

As the photographer tells us bikers to come on through, the bride and groom don't seem to mind the interruption!

Wild chickens and pigeons along our bike path, happy to be fed by someone (not pictured) gathering feathers to make some sort of headdress.

The mirror shot #2

The now-famous eagle sighting (just above the tallest tree, in case you missed it).  Unfortunately, we didn't have the good camera with us; fortunately, Elena got to see her first eagle in the wild!

After a delicious family dinner, and with Jonathan behind the camera, and Bob (Tracy's wife) in the jacuzzi, here's who we were able to get in front of the camera:

(Clockwise from the left) Elena, Tracy, Kelsey, Marci, Loni, Dylan, Tim, Bella (dog), J.J., and Garrett (8/3)

Marci, Loni, Tracy (pictured here), and Neil were so nice in helping us get these invitations ready for mailing.

Elena gives one of the many "Oh no you didn't!" looks as Marci prepares homemade Swedish pancakes, similar to crepes.  (8/4)

Marci fills her Swedish pancake with some sweet-ish fixins!

Most things are homemade when you come to Marci's place.  Makes it hard to leave Marci's place!
